Five Years Later: Why I Stopped Writing—and Why I’m Back.

After the Silence

It’s been five years.

Five years since I last sat down and wrote something here. Five years since I shared pieces of my life, my thoughts, and my story with whoever happened to be reading.

I never meant to be gone this long.

But life happened. I changed. I struggled. And somewhere along the way, I lost parts of myself that I’m still learning how to find again.

For a long time, depression made even the simplest things feel impossible. Getting through the day could take everything I had. I pulled away from people. From things I loved. From the life I used to recognize.

Eventually, I pulled away from writing too.

I didn’t always know how to explain what was happening inside my head. Sometimes, I didn’t understand it myself.

So I stopped writing.

I stopped sharing.

I disappeared.

And five years is a long time when you look back and realize how much can change.

Still Here

But here I am.

Writing again.

I wish I could say I came back with everything figured out. I didn’t.

I’m still learning. I still have difficult days. I still have moments when depression tries to convince me that I’m not moving forward.

But I’ve learned something important:

Coming back doesn’t mean becoming the person you used to be.

Sometimes, coming back means allowing yourself to become someone new.

And this version of me has been through a lot.

These past five years have taught me things I probably couldn’t have learned any other way. They’ve taught me that struggling doesn’t make me weak. That asking for help isn’t failure. That healing isn’t always obvious.

And that progress doesn’t have to be big to count.

Sometimes progress is getting out of bed.

Sometimes it’s answering a message.

Sometimes it’s taking a shower, going outside, making something, laughing at something stupid, or simply deciding to try again tomorrow.

And sometimes progress is opening a blank page after five years and saying:

Okay. I’m ready to write again.

I don’t know exactly where this new chapter will take me.

Maybe I’ll write about depression. Maybe I’ll write about healing, life, the things I’m learning, the things I’m still struggling with, or the ordinary little moments that make life worth holding onto.

What I do know is that I don’t want fear, shame, or the belief that I have to be completely okay before I’m allowed to speak keep me silent anymore.

So this is me coming back.

Five years later.

A little different.
A little stronger.
Still figuring things out.

But here.

And maybe, for today, that’s enough.

Thank you for being here.

Let’s see where this goes.
